Boat Rentals

Open to the public seven days a week

Boat Rental Booking

Shady Shores Boat Rental Center is open to the public seven days a week during the summer season. We rent pontoon boats, kayaks, canoes and stand up paddle boards. Rentals can be picked up from either Shady Shores Marina or Fair Point Marina, our sister resort.

Our staff will give you all of the necessary equipment you need to get out on the water and provide you with operating instructions too. SUPs may look a bit intimidating but they are easy to learn with a few minutes of practice.

Pontoon boats are easy to maneuver and great for getting out on the water with a family or group. Kayaks and SUPs are a great way to get some exercise and explore the beautiful shorelines of Blind Sodus and Little Sodus bays.

Frequently asked questions

We provide you with all of the gear you need for your rental such as paddles, oars and a life jacket for each passenger. Pontoon rentals may include fuel and taxes depending on the length of the rental period. See price chart above.

Reservations are strongly recommended particularly on weekends and holidays. Walk-in traffic will be accommodated on a first-come basis.

  • We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express.
  • All credit card transactions must be made by the person named on the card. A valid drivers license must accompany the credit card.
We will not accept credit cards from someone other than the owner of the card.

You must be 21 years of age or older to rent any of our equipment. In addition:

  • You must have a valid drivers license.
  • The qualified renter must be present to complete the rental contract.
  • You may not be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

Pontoon Boats.  No, because New York’s Boater Safety Law has an exception for rental boats. If you are at least 18 years old, you may rent without completing a course. Persons under the age of 18 may only rent a motorboat if they hold a safety certificate.

Kayaks, Canoes and SUPs. The safety certificate is only required for the operation of mechanically propelled boats so no certificate is necessary for these rentals.

“A life jacket is required for each person on board a paddle craft, which include canoes, kayaks and SUP’s, as well as a sound signaling device. A mouth whistle is acceptable and is easily attached to the life jacket. It is highly recommended that the life jacket is worn. The exception to wearing a life jacket is when paddling in the ocean surf zone as the life jacket may restrict the ability to swim under the waves. In addition to the required life jacket and whistle, a leash is a recommended piece of safety equipment if you are using a SUP.” From NY Parks and Recreation Boating website
